How it works, an illustrative story:
Lisa is a teacher and calls herself the “queen of multitasking.”
Lately, however, she has been forgetting things, is increasingly
exhausted, and frustrated from constantly being on the go.
She would like to have some time for herself but finds it
difficult with her job, a husband who often works late, and
three active children. After-school activities keep her in
the car racing from one school to the other several days a
week. Dinner is often fast food or served in shifts and by
the time the children are in bed, Lisa wishes she was, too,
but there is more to do.
Exhausted, she searches the internet looking for help and
finds the National Association of Professional Organizers.
She searches for organizers in her area and contacts Laine
Dougherty.
Meet & Assessment
The
first meeting is a 30 minute no obligation consultation.
It provides an opportunity to see the home and discuss
the challenges Lisa is facing. Together, we discuss
the benefits of being organized and the importance of
designing systems that support her natural thinking
style. With our non-judgmental approach and practical
solutions, Lisa realizes she can get her family organized
and makes an appointment to get started.

Plan
On
the day of the appointment, we discuss the organizing
process that we will follow and customize the action
plan. The step-by-step approach suggests systems based
on Lisa’s natural learning style and preferences.
In her case, getting organized is not only about de-cluttering
her home so she can find things quickly, but also about
finding time for herself. She is excited by the plan
and ready to get to work.

Organize
During
our three hour session, we go through the steps of the
process, discussing organizing principles and concepts
along the way. Lisa examines time management strategies
and the benefits of having regular family meetings.
We set up a landing zone for the children’s backpacks,
musical instruments, sports equipment and other things
that they need to take back and forth to school. We
also set up a paper management system for school papers
and incoming mail. Energized by all we have accomplished
together, Lisa sets the next appointment to organize
the kitchen.

Follow - Up
Support is only a phone call or email away both during the project and after. A follow up visit or phone call 2-4 weeks after completing the project answers any questions and provides suggestions to adjust any systems if needed. Lisa now has a basic week plan that will keep her and her family on track. She has set aside time each day for herself and is happier and less stressed. The children have taken on more responsibility for their belongings and can quickly and easily find everything they need for school. Lisa is also more confident in her abilities and able to tackle other organizational problems on her own.
Organization can provide multiple rewards:
It can create an oasis of calm while reducing stress,
saving time and energy, saving money,
and getting your life under control while learning valuable
organizational and life management skills to help the
whole family...just to name a few. |
