Introduction

With the pressures of MCAS, extra curricular activities, and increasing homework demands, children and teens are constantly juggling multiple challenges. It can be difficult for them to get the most out of their studies, manage their time effectively, and still have time to connect with friends. At Laine?s Logic we believe that the development of successful homework strategies and organizational habits begins by focusing on the positives and using a child?s strengths to design solutions that work for them. Our nonjudgmental approach encourages and supports children as they develop responsibility. We offer individual programs, group classes and phone coaching.

*I want to thank Vincent who gave me this wonderful testimonial of our work together.*

Who is it for?
Every school age child that wants to improve their grades can benefit from our program. There are transitions that happen as children enter fourth grade, middle school and high school. Each transition brings its own challenges, expectations and responsibilities that could easily overwhelm the best student. If your child is disorganized, has adhd, executive functioning challenges or a learning disability the challenges are much greater. Does your child spend hours on homework but not get the grades you feel they can? Are tests and long term projects often a surprise? Is their backpack a jumbled mess of papers? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child could benefit from our individual homework coaching program or our Learning Logistics group class.

What are the benefits?
• builds confidence and self esteem as students become successful
• teaches time and project management - no more last minute emergencies
• learn effective organizing habits and develop routines
• maximize during study time through the understanding of processing modalities
• develop responsibility and manage teacher expectations
• provides the student and the family with the support they need for continued success.

Meet "Joey" - an illustrative story:

Every child has unique challenges and strengths and we create an individualized program to meet your child?s specific needs. We will use the story of a boy named Joey to illustrate how this process works:

After our initial consultation with Joey and his parent we develop an action plan to help him meet his goals. His action plan covers the physical spaces (study area, backpack and bedroom), as well as, paper management, time management and study habits.

We meet with Joey and his parent to discuss the new plan and our approach. Each student?s action plan is dependent on their goals and we design a program that ?fits? them. It often includes a combination of on-site organizing and coaching. It may also include email accountability and 30 minute phone coaching calls between sessions. Some students work better in groups with their peers. For them we recommend our Learning Logistics class. It is an eight week interactive program that teaches the same skills and strategies for successful learning.

Joey is now a confident sixth grader who enjoys going to school. No more nightly homework struggles or missed deadlines. He spends less time on his homework, has become responsible and is getting better grades. Joey uses an easy system to keep track of his homework, tests and long term projects. It is now easier for him to manage his many responsibilities and still enjoy time with his friends.

Research says that it takes 21 days to change a habit but we believe it may take longer for children. We welcome questions and provide ongoing support throughout the duration of the program and for an additional 30 days via email or phone.

With time and support, a new system can provide multiple rewards: Better grades, increased self motivation and responsibility, healthy self esteem, development of organizational and life management skills, less stressful evenings, closer family relationships, and time to spend together in a positive way, just to name a few.
